Final set of still life images in 4×5 orientation from (e)merge Give & Take items. These photos were taken onsite during the tear-down of the installation at the Capitol Skyline Hotel (the site of (e)merge Art Fair). The challenge was to use materials at the location to create a table-top studio and to create serious “product shots”. The concept was to take the detritus left behind from the Give & Take exchange wall and treat the objects in a manner that elevated their status back to that of a desirable commodity. In this way, the cycle of consumption and objectification explored in the project loops back and the detrius is transformed back into an art object. The photographs intentionally use the visual vocabulary of commercial product photography as part of the dialogue about consumption and objectification.

200 NETSUKE FOR GIVE & TAKE

I made 200 plaster cast “netsuke” sculptures at 100% size for the Give & Take installation at (e)merge Art Fair. The netsuke were cast with a monofilament loop and finished with colour-shifting automotive paint.
